Mechanical means of removal is a proven strategy in salt reduction; getting snow off the pavement early and often is a sure way to avoid compaction and icy spots later on. Apartment management company, jkRock Homes purchased four 36" Exmark Rotary Brooms with the help of a 2020 Road Salt Reduction Equipment Grant from the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District. These brooms were used to manage snow around multiple properties in the Madison Area. Operators share their experience with the equipment. Overall, they were able to reduce salt use by 60% thanks to the new equipment.
